How to cancel a family plan without stranding members
Organizer cancels → members usually lose paid benefits at period end. Member leaves → organizer keeps paying the same family price in most products.
Before you cancel: tell members, export playlists/photos they need, and check whether anyone is using purchase sharing or iCloud storage tied to the family organizer.
Family plans save money only when seats are filled. Cancelling is easy; the messy part is shared purchases, shared storage and people who still expect access next week.
Cancel or leave a family plan
If you are the organizer / manager
- Open the service's family or subscription page (examples below).
- Decide: cancel entire plan vs remove one member vs switch to Individual.
- Message every member with the date access ends.
- Cancel through the same store that bills you (web vs Apple vs Google).
If you are a member (not paying)
- Leave the family group in the app/site settings so you can buy your own plan cleanly.
- Download offline content you are allowed to keep.
- Watch for a free-trial offer on Individual - cancel the trial if you do not want it.

- Spotify Family / Duo: spotify.com/account > subscription / family management.
- Apple Family / Apple One: Settings > [your name] > Family Subscriptions, or Apple ID account page.
- YouTube Family: Google family group + YouTube Premium membership page.
- Microsoft 365 Family: account.microsoft.com/services.
- Netflix extra members: managed inside Netflix account membership settings (not a classic family plan).
- Amazon Household: Amazon account > Household profiles / Prime benefits sharing.
Gotchas that cost money
- Removing a member rarely lowers the price until you change plan tier.
- Apple One cancellations can remove Music, TV+, Arcade and iCloud+ storage at once - download what you need first.
- Shared payment methods may still show charges on the organizer's card after members leave.

Will kids lose Game Pass / apps immediately?
Usually they keep access until the paid period ends - confirm in the product. Warn them anyway.
Can two people split an Individual plan instead?
That usually violates terms (password sharing). Use Duo/Family or extra-member features designed for it.
I pay through the App Store - where do I cancel?
iPhone Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions. Only use the iPhone steps if you subscribed through the App Store (the charge on your statement says APPLE.COM/BILL).
