Editorial Policy
Last updated: October 28, 2026
This Editorial Policy explains how CostToCancel researches subscription prices and cancellation guides, how we stay independent from the companies we cover, and how advertising relates to editorial work.
Independence
CostToCancel is an independent publication. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Netflix, Spotify, Disney, Amazon, Apple, Adobe, Microsoft, OpenAI, or any other company named in our guides. Brand names appear only to identify the services we describe.
We never accept payment, gifts, free premium accounts, or other consideration in exchange for a favorable ranking, a softer cancel guide, or the omission of a fee.
Official prices come first
- Dollar amounts printed as current US list prices are checked against the company’s own pricing page, plans page, or help center whenever those pages disclose the figure.
- News articles and comparison blogs may tip us off to a change; they are not the sole source for a number we publish.
- When an official page does not show a figure, we say so and link to that page instead of guessing.
- Regional prices, promotions, taxes, and grandfathered plans mean your bill may differ. Guides state the market they cover (typically US list, before tax) and the verification date.
Advertising and editorial separation
Display advertising (for example Google AdSense) may fund the site. Advertising does not:
- choose which services we cover,
- decide the order of guides on category pages,
- edit cancel steps or refund wording,
- or require us to hide early-termination fees.
Until advertising is approved and live, we keep zero ad units on pages so reviewers and readers see content, not empty boxes. Account meta tags or an ads.txt line may still be present for site verification; those are not ad placements.
If we ever add labelled affiliate links, they will be disclosed on the page where they appear. Affiliate incentives will never override the independence rules above.
How cancel guidance is written
Cancel steps are written for the billing channel that actually charges you: the provider website, Apple App Store subscriptions, Google Play subscriptions, or a named partner. Menus move; when we learn a button has changed, we update the guide and the “Last updated” date. The official help page linked in each guide remains the authority if a UI has shifted since our last check.
Corrections
We welcome corrections. Email [email protected] or use the contact page with:
- the URL of the page,
- what you believe is wrong,
- and, if possible, a screenshot or a link to the official source you used.
We re-check the official source and update the page, usually within a few business days. The visible “Last updated” date changes when the substance of the page changes.
